Despite increased traffic and a white Christmas, the Ironton post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported a safe holiday.
There were no fatal crashes in Lawrence County, Lt. Carl Roark said, and there were only nine minor crashes. Of those nine, only two involved injuries, which were minor, Roark said. Also, the patrol only arrested two people for DUI.
All roads in the county were open and passable despite Wednesday's snowfall, Roark said, but some parts are still treacherous and icy, especially rural bridges.
On New Year's Eve, the patrol will be out in full force once again, Roark said. Law enforcement agencies in Ohio as well as West Virginia and Kentucky will still be participating in the "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose," campaign with sobriety checkpoints throughout the Tri-State area.
