A timeless Christmas classic and one of the best-loved Bible stories will be brought to life Saturday and Sunday at Ironton High School. Students of Yvonne DeKay School of Dance will present Santa's version of "The Nutcracker Ballet" and "The Nativity."
DeKay said she wrote the script for this telling of the ballet years ago.
"This version of "The Nutcracker Ballet" is told from Santa's point of view," DeKay said. "As
he dreamed it. And as for "The Nativity," I just wanted to send a message. I want us to remember who the creator is and why we celebrate Christmas."
More than 55 dancers will take part. Many of them are Ironton area residents who are excited about performing in front of a hometown audience, DeKay said.
Proceeds benefit the Ironton High School Band Boosters. Band boosters president Jeff Massie said the money will go to pay bills and to fund any upcoming band trips.
"We have never worked with Yvonne Delay before. She called me and asked if we would be willing to do this," Massie said. "It was overwhelmingly nice of her to contact me. She's really giving us a gift."
The main soloist will be Katie Scherer, who plays the part of The Snowflake Queen". Emily Carey will play the part of "The Sugarplum Fairy" while Kipp Colvin will play the part of Santa.
Concessions will be available in the cafeteria during intermission. Tickets are $6 and are available at the high school, at the Yvonne DeKay School of Dance, or by calling 534-1538.
The performances will be 7 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
