McARTHUR -- Phil Davis thought his fullback would have a big game, and he did. What he didn't expect was what his halfback would have.

Chesapeake fullback Andy Stapleton had a career-high 153 yards rushing and halfback Michael Hunt added 119 yards as the Panthers rushed past the Vinton County Vikings 28-0 Friday night.

"We felt our fullback would have a big game, and Michael (Hunt) had a big game for us," Panthers coach Phil Davis said. "We've had good balance. Marcum ran well and many times untouched."

As a team, Chesapeake pounded out 416 yards on the ground on 58 carries.

Quarterback Tyler Marcum added 84 yards on eight carries. Justin Finley, the Panthers other quarterback, was 2 of 6 for 57. Hunt had one catch for 23 yards.

Chesapeake (2-3) limited the Vikings to just 146 total yards, 71 coming on the ground.

"Our defensive played real well. We've been more physical the last two ball games. We're getting a little bit better," said Davis.

Marcum ran 29 yards on a keeper with 8:36 left in the first quarter to give Chesapeake a 6-0 lead.

Marcum got the next touchdown on a 46-yard scamper. Stapleton added the conversion run and it was 14-0 just before the end of the quarter.

Hunt tacked on a 9-yard touchdown run with 3:38 left in the half. Marcum passed to Matt Rucker for the conversion and it was 22-0.

The final touchdown was a 3-yard run by backup fullback Junior Jamie with 3:17 to play.

Davis is hoping the Panthers

injured players can get healthy going into next week's first conference game against River Valley.

"We tried to rest some people and the people we had nicked up we tried to keep them off the field," said Davis.
