A man arrested Saturday morning for shooting his neighbor’s automobile will remain hospitalized for a while longer.

Capt. Chris Bowman, detective with the Ironton Police Department, said that Odell Ackison, 69, of 1714 Thomas St., will be released from Scioto Memorial Hospital in Portsmouth later this week, but will likely be transferred to another mental health facility for additional evaluation and treatment.

"There are some issues here," Bowman said. "The neighbors are concerned -- there have been other incidents. This person is a suspect in two other shootings involving the same tire on the same vehicle."

Ackison was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly shot his neighbor’s automobile and then refused to leave his house and talk to police officers about the incident.

He

is charged with discharging a firearm in the city, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.

Ironton Police officers were called to Thomas Street at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday by a neighbor who advised that his van had been shot with a handgun, and identified Ackison as the responsible party.

Officers were unable to contact Ackison either by telephone or knocking on the door, even though he could be observed sitting in a room of his house with a rifle and a handgun laying beside him.

When officers advised him to come out immediately, Ackison allegedly lunged for his weapons.

Officers then forced their way into the home and subdued Ackison. Teresa Moore/The Ironton Tribune
