The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections has recognized the Ironton Municipal Court’s Intensive Supervision program as one of the top three in the state.

The local program was selected for the certificate of excellence from more than 200 programs throughout Ohio. The program provides structured supervised probation of people convicted of misdemeanors, such as DUI, driving with a suspended license, theft and domestic violence.

Offenders sentenced to the program are required to maintain weekly contact with a probation officer and are encouraged to maintain employment and/or further their education. They must also undergo random drug and alcohol testing and are often required to make restitution to their victims.

"I am extremely pleased to be selected as one of the top three programs within the state of Ohio," Ironton Municipal Court Judge O. Clark Collins said. "All the credit goes to my excellent probation department staff."

The program is funded through an Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections grant. Teresa Moore/The Ironton Tribune
