PROCTORVILLE – After they stopped doing what they weren’t suppose to do, the Fairland Lady Dragons did just what they wanted to do.

After falling behind the first quarter, Fairland stormed back to rout the Portsmouth East Lady Tartans 76-41 Thursday in a non-league game.

"It wasn’t that we were turning the ball over, we just weren’t playing defense. We were standing around. Once we got some extra motivation, we got straightened out and played defense," Fairland coach Nathan Speed said.

"But our bench did a good job coming in and playing hard and keeping us playing well."

Jeana Diamond had 22 points and 17 rebounds to pace the Fairland attack. Brooke Fisher had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists while Jennifer Jones had 20 points and 10 rebounds

Annie Clinger scored 16 points for East.

The Tartans raced to an 18-8 first quarter lead as Diamond had all eight of Fairland’s points.

Brooke Godby the scored eight points the second quarter as Fairland roared back to outscore East 27-6 and take a 35-24 halftime lead.

Jones pumped in 10 points the third quarter as Fairland added 10 points to its lead to go up 58-37 and then limited East to four points the fourth quarter to win going away.

Fairland hosts South Point Friday night as part of a tripleheader. The boys junior varsity plays South Point at 5 p.m. followed by the girls varsity game and then the boys varsity contest.
