Some Russell, Ky. residents who want to see the noise level at an Ironton bar turned down voiced their concern at last night’s Ironton City Council meeting.
Noise – specifically loud music and profanity – from the Ironton Boat Club, a bar located on the Center Street Landing on the river side of the flood wall, is keeping the Kentucky neighbors awake at night, they said.
William Ward of Riverside Drive in Russell told council he lives across the river from the "honkytonk" outside Ironton’s floodwall. He said from Wednesday through the weekend, the music’s volume is so loud it disturbs him, his wife and infant child.
In addition to the music’s volume, profanity that echoes from the bar across the river is causing the Russell resident some concern, they said.
"They use language I wouldn’t use in a barn," Ward said.
Mayor Bob Cleary and police chief Bill Garland said they have also witnessed the episodes and steps have been taken to turn the volume down.
Garland said the loud noise violates the city’s disorderly conduct ordinance and if the noise isn’t turned down, officers will cite the owner of the bar into municipal court.
