FRANKLIN FURNACE – Two bit players took starring roles. Usually Joe Salyers and Brad Bainer just do their job while others take the spotlight. But Friday night the duo stepped into the forefront in a 69-29 rout of the St. Joe Flyers.

Salyers and Bainer scored 10 points each as the Bobcats used a balanced attack. Alex Poe led the way with 18 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Kyle Dyer had six rebounds and Ben Dyer five assists.

Bill Dressel scored 11 points for the Flyers (3-15).

"All our kids did a nice job defensively. Joe Salyers and Brad Bainer had really good nights on the offensive end of the floor. They had 20 points between them," Green coach Kevin Lewis said.

The prospect of a blowout did materialize at first. Chris Laber scored four points for the Flyers while Ben Dyer and Salyers each hit 3-pointers and the game was tied 9-9 at the end of the first quarter.

But Poe scored nine points the second quarter as the Bobcats began to assert themselves by outscoring the Flyers 20-4 and it was 29-13 at the break.

"The first quarter was a little bit slow-paced and both teams had trouble finding the basket," said Lewis. "If anything, that was a credit to our defense. We changed our press and it not only got us going on defense but change our outlook on offense."

Green (11-7) kept rolling the third quarter by outscoring St. Joe 25-6. Poe had eight points, Bainer six, and Salyers five. Dressel had four of St. Joe’s points.

Aaron Patton came off the bench the fourth quarter and scored seven points as Green continued to pull away.

"The third quarter was more of the same," said Lewis. "We did a better job forcing them away from the basket. The fourth quarter was just a good opportunity for us to get our young kind a chance to play."
