CHESAPEAKE – Anthony Delimpo is the Chesapeake Panthers version of an extra value meal. And now he’s just been super-sized.
The 6-foot-6 senior center has added another honor to his long list after the announcement he is a nominee for a position on the McDonald’s All-American team.
Delimpo is one of 1,600 prep basketball standouts in the nation nominated for the award by the McDonald’s All-American basketball team Selection Committee, a group of nationally prominent basketball experts.
A total of 24 players will be chosen to comprise the 2001 McDonald’s team.
"I first saw it on the internet and I didn’t believe it at first," Delimpo said. "I’m honored to be mentioned with all those great names."
Delimpo leads the Panthers with a 17.0 scoring average and 10.5 rebounds a game. Chesapeake is currently 13-0 and ranked fourth in the Associated Press Division III Ohio high school poll.
"Anthony a nice player. He’s worked hard to make himself a good player," Chesapeake coach Norm Persin said.
This year’s McDonald’s All-American Game will be play on Wednesday, March 28, at the Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C., the home of the Duke Blue Devils.
The game will be broadcast at 9 p.m. by ESPN. All proceeds from the game will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Carolina.
Delimpo is the son of David and Valerie Delimpo of Chesapeake.
