The loss dropped the Ironton Fighting Tigers record, but it didn’t make a big drop in the Associated Press poll.
Despite a 28-0 loss to the Division III No. 1-ranked Portsmouth Trojans, Ironton slipped only three spots to 10th place in the Division IV AP poll announced Wednesday.
Ironton, 5-1, received 70 points, well ahead of 11th place Wellington which had 39 points. Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas is ninth with 86 points.
Sandusky Perkins continues to lead with 336 points while Germantown Valley View is second with 298 points.
Youngstown Ursuline is third, Coshocton fourth, Licking Valley fifth, Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph sixth, and Akron Manchester seventh.
Portsmouth widened its lead in Division III over McConnelsville Morgan. Akron Hoban is third.
Jackson is tied for 12th place and Gallipolis is 16th.
Amanda-Clearcreek is the leader in Division V followed by Liberty Center and Columbus Bishop Ready.
Delphos St. John’s is first in Division VI and Portsmouth Notre Dame remains fifth.
Cleveland St. Ignatius has a huge lead in Division I thanks to last week’s 17-point win over Massillon which fell to sixth. Cincinnati Moeller is second.
Youngstown Chaney had a 59-point lead over Defiance in Division II. Columbus DeSales is ranked sixth.
Ironton hosts Columbus DeSales the final game of the regular season.
