"It was another great game. We have a lot of respect for Green. Both teams played great defense. It always comes down to the team who makes the fewest mistakes," Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said.

The Vikings Candace Sharp and Green’s Jessica Butler locked up in a pitcher’s dual. Sharp gave up four hits, struck out 16, and walked two for the win. Butler gave up three hits, fanned two and did not walk a batter.

"Candace had a very outstanding performance again, and the defense was good behind her again," said Estep. "We were fortunate enough to get two hits in the fourth and push the run across."

The game’s only run came in the fourth inning.

With one out, Cortney Scott singled to left field. Keren Bell hit a deep fly ball to right and Scott tagged up and went to third. Ginny Young followed with a base hit to right to score Scott.

Green, which had one hit in each of the first four innings, threatened in the first when Courtney Moore singled, stole second but was left stranded.

The Lady ‘Cats Jennifer Cline singled and went to second on a wild pitch in the second but failed to score.

Moore singled and stole second again in the third, but she was left on base as the inning ended.

Symmes Valley is now 4-2 and 3-0 in the SOC. The Vikings play in the Newark Tournament at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday.
