Lines of potential Liebert Corp. employees will begin forming at the Ohio Bureau of Employment Service’s One-Stop Center in Ironton Monday. But, because the response is predicted to be in the hundreds, the application process will be by appointment only, said OBES office manager Nancy Craigmiles.

"If you are interested in finding a job at Liebert, you need to make an appointment for the application process," Mrs. Craigmiles said. "The reason we are requiring appointments is because we expect several hundred people on Monday and we don’t have the staff to handle each person individually. So, we’ll be working with them in groups."

In light of more than 1,000 jobs lost in the last 11 months, the City of Ironton will have several displaced workers who not only qualify, but also understand that these 150 jobs are important to their families and to the city.

Pay rates begin at $7.40 an hour for the listed jobs, which include wirers and brazers, general assemblers, machine operators, supervisory personnel and machine operators. The quoted $7.40 an hour is for the general assemblers’ positions, she said.

"If a person is interested in a particular job, they can call us and we will give them that information," said Mrs. Craigmiles, who declined to state all salaries at this time.

In addition to the appointment, Mrs. Craigmiles said the application process is very thorough.

"Once we get through screening, the company will require other testing from the applicants, Mrs. Craigmiles said. "There is an aptitude test and also a wiring and brazing test."

Also after screening and prior to hiring, Liebert will require drug screening and a background check.

"Liebert is a company that will do reference checks for all persons before they hire them," she said. "It will be helpful to just go ahead and bring the reference information to us at the time of the initial appointment."

Other items needed at the time of application include complete employment history, including dates and names.

"They are interested in exploring all segments of employment history, including unemployment history," she said.

For an appointment, call the One-Stop center Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 532-8082.
