Fifty-eight fouls and 72 free throws later and the Panthers knocked off an aggressive Tolsia Rebels team 82-63 Tuesday night, but not without a fight.

Chesapeake hit 30 of 49 free throws and Anthony Delimpo led the Panthers with 24 points. Bobby Barbour added 12 points on the strength of four three-pointers, Josh Waugh had 11 and Adam Pemberton had 10.

"They had 38 points at the half and then our defense stepped it up," Chesapeake coach Norm Persin said. "Pemberton led our defense, he fueled our defense in the second half. Barbour hit a pair of 3’s and then we just started going over the top to Delimpo."

Tolsia had three players in double figures. Jay Sammons led the way with 18, Jason Walker added 15 and Jason Hatfield had 14. The Rebels hit 21 of 49 from the field for 43 percent.

Chesapeake hit 22 of 54 from the floor for 41 percent.

"There was a point where we lost some concentration," Persin said. "With this group, we will go on a run and then give the ground right back. We are struggling a little bit to find the right combination. When we did we were off to the races."

Chesapeake, 3-0, shot out to an 11-3 lead behind five points from Delimpo with 3:16 left. Delimpo also added another pair of field goals later in the first and gave the Panthers a 15-6 lead.

Tolsia cut the lead to 17-13 at the end of the quarter with a 6-point run of its own.

The Rebels continued to get easy baskets and another 6-point run early in the second quarter gave them the lead at 19-18.

A 16-footer from Walker and a pair of free throws from Derek Webb gave the Rebels their biggest lead at 25-21.

The Panthers trailed 30-26 with 2:47 left in the half when they went on a 10-point run. Delimpo made four free throws and a tip in and Pemberton finished the run with a steal and a layup making it 36-30 with 1:02 left.

As quick as the Panthers went ahead by six, Tolsia closed the gap that much faster and took a 38-37 halftime lead on a three-pointer from Sammons.

Trailing by three at 40-37 the Panthers went on an 8-point run that included a pair of three-pointers one from Barbour and the other from Pemberton making it 45-40.

Tolsia tied the game with two minutes left in the third quarter but the Panthers took the lead for good on a three-pointer from Matt White making it 50-47 at the end of the quarter.

Delimpo and the Panthers settled the issue once and for all with a 15-2 run to open the final period. Delimpo had a 6-footer to open the run and another 6-footer to close the run making the score 65-52 with 3:14 left.

The Panthers hit 17 of 25 free throws in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Rebels.
