Jewel Webster

Jewel L. Webster, 81, formerly of Columbus, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017 at River’s Bend Health Care Center in Lawrence County. Funeral Services will be noon Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Burlington, 7475 County Road 1, South Point, with Bishop Andy C. Lewter officiating. Arlene Huddleston

Arlene Huddleston, 94, of Chesapeake, died Sunday Dec. 3, 2017 in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. Arrangements are incomplete with Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorvillle.

 

Rick Markel

March 26, 1953 — Dec. 1, 2017

Ricky Markel, age 64, of Pedro, died on Friday Dec. 1, 2017 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1953, the son of the late Robert Markel and Marjorie McCorkle Markel of Pedro. A Rock Hill High graduate class of 1971, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was retired from Pepsi Corp. He also attended Mount Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.
He was the husband of Debbie Kerns Markel, whose love story began April 14, 1973. Survivors, other than his mother and wife, are two daughters, Chastity (Mark) McFann, Samantha (Brad) Roberts; grandchildren, Dillon and Isaac McFann, Braelyn Roberts; two sisters, Joan Sturgill and Mary Jo (Bob) Malone; one brother, Mike (Lana) Markel; and mother In-law, Virginia Kerns.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John (John Cat) Markel; father-in-law, Frank (Punk) Kerns; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Kerns. Other than the love for his family, Rick loved hunting, fishing, hunting mushrooms, root digging, riding his motorcycle and watching Ohio State football with his furry friends, Rudy and Charlie. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home. Funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with Ronnie Blagg and Brandon Depriest officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery.

Peggy Arden

Nov. 2, 1935 — Dec. 1, 2017

Mrs. Peggy Kay (Dutey) Arden, 82, of Coal Grove, passed away after an extended illness Friday, Dec. 1, 2017.  The Coal Grove native was born Nov. 2, 1935 a daughter to the late James and Mae (Beals) Dutey.  Peggy was also preceded in death by her first husband, John Johnson, in 1974 and her second husband, Chester “Chet” Arden, in 2009.
Mrs. Arden was a 1953 graduate of Coal Grove High School.  Peggy went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Elementary Education and a master’s degree from Marshall University in Early Childhood Education.  She worked as a school teacher for many years in Ironton Schools.  Peggy was also a member of Zoar Missionary Baptist Church.
Peggy is survived by two daughters, Joni (Kevin) Willis, of Ironton and Jami (Bill) Suver, of Ironton; four grandchildren, Hannah (Andrew) Knipp, of Ironton, John Kevin Willis, of Ironton, Jamie (Rebecca) Willis, of Ironton, and Hayden Suver and fiance Molly Miller, both of Ironton; two great grandchildren, Clayton and Dawson Willis, both of Ironton; a sister, Sharon (Bill) Morgan, of Coal Grove; two brothers, Ray “Moose” Dutey, of Coal Grove, and Gary Dutey, of Coal Grove, and many beloved family members and friends.
Peggy was also preceded in death by three sisters, Patricia Ann Dutey, Betty Mader and Ruth Burcham; three brothers, Roy Delbert Dutey, James Dutey and Jack Dutey.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zoar Missionary Baptist Church in Coal Grove.  The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow in Zoar Cemetery.  Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home, 518 South 6th Street, Ironton.

Anthony Badder

Fred Taylor

Aug. 16, 1925 — Dec. 1, 2017

Fred A. “Jack” Taylor, 92, of Bidwell, Passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at the Holzer Senior Care.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1925 in Gum Stump Hollow, Aid Township, in Lawrence County, son of the late James and Fannie Robinson Taylor.  He was a farmer, school bus driver and retired from the Gallia County Courthouse in the maintenance custodial department. Jack served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was wounded in the right hip at Dom faine, France.  He received a Purple Heart, a European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and one battle star for his service.  He was also a M-1 rifle marksman.
He was married to Odella Baker Taylor on February 28, 1953 and she survives him, along with their children, Harold (Susan) Taylor, Rita Haley, Blaine (Donna) Taylor, Vaughn  (Karen) Taylor, all of Bidwell, and Cheryl (Mark) Holley, of Columbia, Tennessee; 14 grandchildren, Benjamin (Charity) Taylor, Jonathan (Katie) Taylor, Christina (Ben) Mohler, Kent (Alison) Haley, Valerie (Shannon) Weaver, Dale (Jessica) Taylor, Bryce (Kayla) Taylor, Brooke (Clinton) Kennedy, Justin (Chelsea) Taylor, Jared (Jenny) Taylor, Kari Beth (Kent) Trout, Ashton (Ethan) Hein, Lauren Holley and Simeon Holley; 21 great grandchildren; three sisters, Othell Cousineau, of Sacramento, California, Nell Rose, of Johnstown, Ohio, and Martha (Dale) Hehmeyer, of Austin, Texas, one brother Henry Ray Taylor, of Waterloo, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Alan Haley; son-in-law, Larry Haley; a great grandson, Michael Hunter Trout; and three brothers, Oliver Park Taylor, Willard Taylor and Ralph Taylor.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Willis Funeral Home, with Pastor Alfred Holley officiating.  Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens.  Friends may call at Willis Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m.  There will be military rites given at the cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Missionary Fund at First Baptist Church 1100 Fourth Ave. Gallipolis, Ohio, 45631 in memory of Fred A. “Jack” Taylor.

Charles Yeley

July 2, 1961 — Dec. 1, 2017

Mr. Charles Robert Yeley, Jr., 56, of Ironton passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. The Lawrence County  native was born July 2, 1961, a son to the late Charles R. Sr. and Bonnie (Stapleton) Yeley.
Mr. Yeley was a 1979 graduate of Rock Hill High School. Charles went on to work as a plumber at Hamilton & Son Plumbing. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather. Charles was of the Christian faith.
Charles is survived by a wife, Debbie (Hamilton) Yeley; a daughter, Nickie Yeley, of  Ironton;  a step-son, Mark Nash, of Ironton; a granddaughter, Shaianna Laber, of Pedro; and a brother, Jeff  Yeley, of  Oak Hill.
A service will be conducted at the convenience of the family at a later date and time.

Guy Kerfoot

Sept. 3, 1945 — Dec. 1, 2017

Guy Kerfoot, 72, of South Point, passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at UK Health Center, Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born Sept. 3, 1945, a son of the late Charles Edward and Mary Taylor Kerfoot. Guy was a U.S. Army veteran. He graduated from the Kentucky Police Academy, served as a police officer in Lebanon, Kentucky, and a deputy for Lawrence County, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Prichard Kerfoot; his three children, Pamela Dawn Kerfoot, Charles Edward “Eddie” Kerfoot and Lisa Faye Cartwright; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Eloise Johnson

May 16, 1934 — Dec. 1, 2017

Eloise Harmon Johnson, 83 of Coal Grove, passed away after a short illness on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at Harbor Healthcare in Ironton.
Eloise was born at home in Coal Grove on May 16, 1934, daughter of the late Mose and Maude Harmon of Coal Grove. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Garlen Johnson, of Coal Grove.
Eloise was a 1952 graduate of Dawson Bryant High School. She worked as a bank teller in Coal Grove and enjoyed sewing, gardening and making money at the flea markets.
In addition to her parents, Eloise is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Sharon Hunt (Nov. 14, 2017), and her brothers Wendall Harmon, Willard (Cleo) Harmon, Clifford “Tip” (Dorothy) Harmon, Robert Harmon and Jack Harmon.
In addition to her husband, Eloise is survived by her children; a son, Steven (Sharon) Johnson of Smyrna, Tennessee and a son, Leo (Kim) Johnson of Ironton; her brother, Don (Judy) Harmon, of Coal Grove; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Harmon, also of Coal Grove; and a sister in law, Betty Harmon of Ocala, Florida; her beloved grandchildren, Chad (Michelle) Hamilton and Kellie (JC Ross) Hunt, of Coal Grove; JJ Hunt, who is currently serving in the Navy at Naval Base in Ventura County, California, Lane (Morgan) and Carter Johnson, both of Ironton; her precious great-grandchildren, Alexis Hamilton, Trey and Jaylen Hunt, Haylie, Evan and Rylie Ross, Jesse and Jared Hunt.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Woodland Cemetery, with Pastor Ken Gowin officiating.  Friends and family may line up for the funeral procession at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South 7th Street, Ironton, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and will leave for the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.  To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
