Rolland Mayo

Rolland Mayo, 101, of Ironton, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2011, at his residence. He was born July 22, 1909, in Kerr, the son of the late Phillip and Ida (Smith) Mayo.
Rolland was a member of the New Jerusalem Christian Center where he served as a deacon and the Head of the Deacon Board.
He was also a member of the former Elks Lodge in Ironton. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and was an avid bowler, fox hunter and gardener. He also wrote poetry and wrote skits for minstrel shows.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Allene (Taylor) Mayo; one son, Rolland Mayo, Jr., one daughter, Mamie Lynn Hall, two great-granddaughters, Renia Mayo and Ryley King; one great-grandson, Jonathon Mayo; two sisters, Ruby Hutchenson and Gloria Sink; and three brothers, James, Robert and John Mayo.
He is survived by 12 children, Myron (Merleane) Mayo, Norma Jean Kelly, Barbara (Robert) Dibble, Major (Vickie) Mayo, Pete Edwards Mayo, Nicole Mayo, Walter (Regina) Mayo, Henry (Sharon) Mayo, Aliena Mayo, Allen Mayo, Edith Austin and Jacqueline King; 31 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 12 great great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the New Jerusalem Christian Center with Bishop Lisath officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Tracy Brammer Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.tracybrammerfh.com.
