Ironton 29, Fairbanks 19

IRONTON — The Ironton Fighting Tigers shook off a lackluster first half with a strong running game to beat the Fairbanks Panthers 29-19 Friday.

Ironton ran the ball 62 times for 370 yards led by quarterback Tommy Waginger who had a career-high 104 yards rushing on 12 carries. He also hit 3 of 3 passing for 23 yards as Ironton (7-2) rolled up 393 total yards.

Fairbanks (7-2) was held to 60 yards rushing. Quarterback Nick Gibson was 14 of 23 passing for 208 yards and an interception by Tyler Kratzenberg. Gibson had 65-yard scoring pass to Jared Replogle and a 54-yard middle screen to Max Burnside to account for most of his passing yardage.

Coal Grove 52, Fairland 12

PROCTORVILLE — Coal Grove’s running game was good, but the Hornets also turned to quarterback Alex Bare who threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns to remain unbeaten in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 52-12 rout of the Fairland Dragons Friday.

Bare threw a 14-yard scoring strike to Bryan Steele in the first quarter and a 38-yard touchdown pass to Jake Murphy in the third quarter when the Hornets outscored Fairland 27-0.

Murphy also returned an interception 61 yards for a TD in the third quarter when the Hornets picked off three passes.

Fairland (3-6, 2-2) trailed 24-6 at the half only to have the Hornets blow the game open in the third quarter. Evan Maddox ran nine times for 62 yards.

Coal Grove (8-1, 4-0) plays at Chesapeake — also 4-0 in the OVC — next Friday to decide the league championship.

Chesapeake 48, South Point 21

SOUTH POINT — The Chesapeake Panthers used a strong running game to roll past the South Point Pointers 48-21 Friday and remain unbeaten in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Panthers (4-5, 4-0) amassed 372 yards rushing as Dylan Nichols ran for 107 yards on just three carries including a 90-yard touchdown run on the third Chesapeake play of the game.

Nate Jones added 76 yards rushing while quarterback Austin McMaster ran for 59 yards and completed both his passes for 18 yards and two TDs.

South Point (1-8, 0-4) had just 173 total yards. Curtis Jackson ran for 85 yards on five carries and a touchdown and also returned a fumble 44 yards for a score.

Rock Hill 55, River Valley 34

BIDWELL — Quarterback Will McCollister ran for 91 yards and three touchdowns and was 7 of 9 passing for 100 yards as the Rock Hill Redmen outscored the River Valley Raiders 55-34 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The Redmen (2-7, 2-2) racked up 456 total yards including 356 on the ground. Coty Davis ran for 64 yards and scored twice while Jesse Lane added 69 yards and had a 58-yard touchdown run in the third quarter when Rock Hill outscored the Raiders 28-0.

The Redmen led just 20-18 at the half.

River Valley (1-8, 0-4) was led by quarterback Jacob Hefner who ran for 112 yards and was 27 of 40 passing for 231 yards.
